Diamond Diamond Lil’s is in the bar area of the Mandarin Gardens restaurant. Cindy and her husband, Damon, took over the space and turned it into a house of chill repute, complete with Old West vibe and saloon girls.
The Nichols wanted to name the bar Two Gun Bill’s Saloon after the famed Holcomb Valley drinking establishment that was known for its rough crowd of miners and even tougher women. But because Two Guns is a historical landmark they couldn’t use the name, so they settled with Diamond Lil’s, named for a brothel madam in Tombstone during the Earp days.
Did Diamond Lil follow Virgil Earp when he moseyed west to Colton? Could she have found her way to Two Bill’s in what was then one of the biggest towns in what is now known as the Inland Empire?
Damon knows it’s not too hard of a jump. His family owns Mill Creek Cattle Company in Mentone, the saloon-style smokehouse restaurant at the bottom of Highway 38 that hosts bands like L.A. Guns and Rod Piazza.
The couple bought a vacation home in Fawnskin six years ago and fell in love with the place. One year later they relocated full-time, not far from the location of the old Two Guns Saloon itself.
Cindy tended bar at The Vintage and La Montana, so many of her customers followed her. There have been regulars since day one, which was a month ago, Damon says. To keep their clientele chipper they offer free hors d’oeuvres daily at 4 p.m. There’s karaoke on Friday nights with Marybeth Dantzig, bands play Saturday nights and TVs surround the bar area to keep up with the scores.
